welll, it depends what you mean by originial settings. when you say original settings, do you mean erase everything on the computer and start from scratch by installing windows or previous restore point?
if you mean delete everything and install windows, thats the f11 thing. when you first start up your computer, the opening black/blue screen will display in the top left or top right corner f11 or f8 or f12. each computer is different. when that comes up, hit the button it says, and you'll be prompted to reinstall from a hard driver partition or a cd. if you have a hd partition for backup, you can do that, but since most people dont, you'll need windows install disc. insert disc and install. it'll give options to erase entire computer sometime in the process.
or you could just try doing system restore. go to program files > accessories > system tools > system restore.
system restore will put your settings back to the date you choose. since you want the original one, try going back all the way to the first restore point. it may not work since some restore points can be auto deleted.

My dell laptop is inspiron e1501, and it's F8. I don't know if ur model could be the same or not. or you can use F2, from there, you'll know which one you want.

goto dell support web site and follow the instructions, input the data they want... then look for and download the instruction manual to restore your system...
