1st Punic War - Largely a naval war. Rome learned to fight at sea and eventually won, but they lost many ships in storms.
So - two events - Naval battles such as Drepanum and terrible Roman losses from storm damage are the keys for this initial war. The amazing thing is that Rome would not quit. When a fleet was destroyed by a severe storm, they would build and man another one. This was the secret to Rome's success in ancient warfare. They never quit no matter how high the cost
"Part of the Roman fleet was lost at Drepanum in 249 BC.
The rest was lost in a storm soon afterwards. Having lost yet another fleet to bad weather, the Romans could no longer afford to replace the lost ships. It would be eight years before the Romans returned to the sea in strength." [From 1st source below]

2nd War - Battle of Cannae in 216 BC (Hannibal and the Carthaginians win) and the Battle of Zama in 202 BC (Rome wins to end that war.)

3rd - Short war, only three years. Basically the siege of Carthage and then the total destruction of the city after capture are the key points.

1st Punic War - The Romans did not have a huge navy

2nd Punic War - Romans made a mistake and attacked at Cannae, but then beat them in Spain to end the war.

Hello there,
I suggest you go online to Google and type into the search box:
"Punic war events"
Lots of websites with information pops up, I tried it.
Good luck
