We moved into a new house a month ago and just discover some mold and damage on the bedroom ceiling due to the rain. The affected area is about 2 sq. ft. The builder is doing the repair work but it's very dusty in the room now. He exposed the dry wall and said let it air dry for a few days. Is this the proper way to get rid of the mold? Is there any way to control the dust while he's working in the room (e.g. some machine to suck the dust in)? Should I have someone check on the air quality and make sure that the mold is gone completely? I'm really concerned about the air quality coz we moved into the bedroom right next to it and I'm currently 6 months pregnant.

He should be using bleach or some other agent on the mold. Make sure he does, you may want to hire someone separate to inspect his work (It could be a building inspector that you use when buying an older home--out here a whole house inspection cost $200-300). He wants to get out and be done with it, there no profit in it, you want to make sure the mold is not a problem and that all the damage repaired and the leak is repaired.

If you can I would spend as little time as possible in the work area until he is done. Some mold are toxic.

There are ways to minimize the dust of sheet rock work, but not all contractors use them. I don't know how you would get him to do better but it won't hurt to ask.

If the mold or the damage from moisture intrusion is recent and not over a long period it really isn't a major concern. There is many ways to control dust like covering anything in the room affected so that the work dust is taken out when they are done. Make sure clean up is good and that is that. Most do allow for air dry that is best so the area can be fixed properly. It probably is just some mold and mildew that comes with this type issue. If they do work in the room you might want to leave for a trip to the mall or somewhere to relax. When they are done then go home. Replace the ac filter when they are done. Don't use the cheapest filter either it will go a long way to capturing anything airborne. Replace filter regularly.

Yes if this is a new home just built then the builder is responsible for removing the mold and damaged area.
Mold is very harmful and should be removed professionally if you are breathing this while the work is being done you are putting yourself and your unborn child in danger. The proper way to remove mold is to remove the affected area and replace it completely but the builder will not want to forgo the cost so the will take short cuts call your local EPA. office and ask for advice.
