As long as you stay in the room.The geographic are leaves a little to be desired.

No, it's not. And it's not in a very safe part of town.
The great thing about Birmingham's Airport is that it's only three miles from downtown, making it very convenient.
I would try these hotels in the downtown area: The Tutwiler, the Radisson, the Pickwick Place, or the Embassy Suites. The Pickwick Place and Radisson gets you close to the Five Points area with lots of restaurants and nightlife. Plus, most will have some kind of airport shuttle.
