Older than what? LOL, I am assuming she is not old enough to require hearing aids, or else you will need to speak LOUDLY....
Here is the secret: Ask her questions about herself. When you find out what her interests are, ask her deeper questions about her interests. Works EVERY time.
Hopefully, you can add interesting insights and opinions into the mix. I assume you are well read and well educated? If not, go to Barnes and Noble first and pick up something erudite and start reading it. Then you can say, "I've been reading....by author.....and I thought .....was really interesting"
