I have one betta and three dainos and a small algea eater in a 10 gallon tank and as soon as i put the dainos and the algea eater into the tank he started to chase them. none of the fish are small enough to fit into his mouth. I have plenty of areas for the betta, "KJ", to hide and yet he still chases them. any advice would be greatful.

I did do my research and i read up that betta can be in bigger community tanks as long as there is plenty of hiding places for him. so do YOUR research before you answer a question.

Ok. Even though they can be kept with a few different fish they will still chase them. This can cause stress for the other fish. I think the best thing to do would be get a small tank for KJ. I'm sure you know this, but bettas breathe air, so they can be kept in really small tanks. If you have a petsmart you can buy like a $3 tank for the betta. Then you can fill the 10 gallon tank with new fish, without the betta chasing the fish. Yes, bettas are mean fish, but I guess we cant train them to behave like a dog. lol. So, good luck and i'm sorry you went through all that effort to have plenty of areas for KJ to hide. But, think of all the fun you can have picking out new fish without worrying about KJ. b : )

Your Betta sees the entire tank as his territory. He's not mean,or a bully,he's just a Betta. Give the other fish plenty of places to hide and maybe some plants to break up the open spaces and eventually things will settle down.
Oddly enough one other solution might be adding a couple more Zebras,it will spread the territorial behavior around a little bit.
Also rearranging the stuff in the tank might help change things a little also. The Betta should have been the last one in the tank.

Correction for the guy with no name, SIAMESE Fighting Fish.

All Bettas have different attitudes. You could have a None agressive one or you can have one that will slam it's face into the side of the tank until it reaches the mirror you put in front of it. It just depends on your Betta's Attitude. I would get another tank and put the Danios and the Algae eater into another tank. Another possibility is that you introduced them to fast. Try getting a floatable tub with halfway full of water with 1 danio inside of it. Just watch to see if your Betta will flare up.

I have had a few Betta fish like this. I know it says that you can put them with other fish sometimes it just doesn't work and sometimes it does.It depends on the aggressiveness of you fish. I would take him out. He might not be able to eat them but he can nibble their tails and cause them problems. We have had a few of our zebra dainos and fancy guppy fish to even die this way.

males can too be put into community tanks if the other tankmates dont have long flowing fins and he thinks its another male betta, or other fin nippers like tiger barbs which will eat the bettas fins.

every betta has a different personality.
some are loners
some you can keep with other fish such as tetras.
no guppies tho or anything with big fins.
watch to see if he calms down.
if not, i would say he is a loner.

It really depends on the betta. I have seen bettas do fine with other fish. Female bettas usually are better than males with other fish. However, bettas are usually solitary animals.

Betta fish are naturally like that. EVERYONE WILL ACT THE SAME EXACT WAY.

They experimented with 2 betta fish, they put them on opposite sides of a pond, they both instantly swam for each other and fought until one was dead. THis happend every time.

well i have a Betta and i asked the petmart ppl and they told me that you should never put a Betta fish w/ any other fish; even if its another Betta bc they will try to fight w/ each other. Betta fish are very aggressive

Remove the beta and give him his own 10 gallon tank. DON'T keep him in a small cup or tank, cos that's just mean.
