Sure it can. Eventually your system will adapt again. But you need to focus on getting a good sleep rhythm. Pay attention to your sleep hygiene and your psychological and physical health.

Eat lots of fruit, veg and wholegrain and drink lots of water. This will fuel your body's needs as well as help detoxify your system.

Exercise in the day- try yoga or Pilate's, nothing too strenuous. Ensure that you sleep and wake at the same time everyday. If you absolutely have to take something consider Valerian (but definitely avoid sleeping pills-they're addictive).

Try drinking hot milk at night before you sleep.

that sucks..I don't know.. may be you could go without the pill for a month and see if anything changes? I'd go with Maple Leaf's answer, ask a pharmacist or your gynecologist I've been on the pill Yasmin for 5 years straight (I have to for health reasons) and I've never experienced any side effects, I've been to several gynecologists and I've been told it was the pill with the lowest dose and the least side effects. its supposed to be a great alternative for women who experience adverse effects from other oral contraceptives because it contains drospirenone, whatever that is lol. Better to ask your doctor though hope u get better!

the word chronic means it is there to stay. now on insomnia cause by alcohol withdrawal it can be cured, you have to sleep at same time each night, try to limit your TV in the sala, try soothing music instead in your room during night time, and please drink lots and lots of water during the day to filter down all those alcohol down the drain.Addiction is the word so need your will power to overcome it and not go back to your comfort zone again of drinking alcohol.

I started meditation, when I quit drinking last year.

I am, or rather I WAS a workaholic/alcoholic & didn't know how to let go & relax. When I started meditating, I was much more able to get to sleep.

Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info
