I am travelling to Kyoto from feb. 13-21. I will be staying in a hotel, myself and my two children under the age of 6. I am planning to bring 300,000 JPY with me for food and bus transportation, but most of my activities are already paid for. Will this be enough money?

I'm assuming your accommodations are already paid for. For food, 6,000 yen a day should be enough for you to eat reasonably well. Kids under six ride the buses and subways for free, so that should be less than 1,000 yen a day. Allow another 2,000 yen per day for souvenirs and temple admission fees, etc., and the total comes to around 80,000 yen for nine days. Don't worry, you'll have more than enough!

If you have that kind of spending money and two little ones you might consider hiring a car+driver on a daily basis. It's about 30 000 yen a day. The car hire company could most likely find you a driver who can speak at least rudimentary English.

You can go pretty far with 300,000 yen. It will be more economical if you travel by bus or normal train. Of course it will be more time consuming than bullet train or shinkansen. However if you are traveling, it would be better to travel in a leisure pace.

Yes, unless you go crazy. Transportation isn't terribly expensive, but the food could get you in trouble if you let it.

It's more than sufficient since you won't be in Tokyo.
