Gorgons can turn you to stone if you look in their eyes it is a reference from Greek history. This cartoon pits the Republicans vs the Liberals portrayed by glassy eyed Schip followers. The Republicans think these people are naive. I think Ship is one of the mothers who lost her son fighting in the Iraqi war and she is against the conflict.

Yeah ,it means the republicans see children as grotesque little medusa's(the mythological lady with snakes for hair that turned anyone who looked at them into stone).
Look at the Republicans , they brought you HMO' programs so the INSURANCE comapanies could decide what treatments you needed or didnt need, then later were forced to put their hired doctors on the board so they could come to a fair decision about what you needed healthwise.
Then theres the democrats who want universal healthcare so THEY can decide what you need or dont need like the HMO's.
Id just like the health care plan congress and senate has it works just fine and WELL for them no problem.

Looks like the GOP may be afraid of and against an expansion of the (Don't know the "S") but rest could be Childrens Health Insurance Program. perhaps do a search re: "schip"
