Climate, to a large extent, determines the natural vegetation in an area. In fact, in areas where climate data is absent (such as uninhabited areas) vegetation is used to map the climates. I know one climatologist who mapped climates for a region by using a helicopter to swoop down low over the area and identify the vegetation. By correlating the vegetation with the climate, he was able to prepare accurate climate maps without having actual measurements of temperature and rainfall in the area.

The type of trees that grow in forests depends upon the climate. The leaves and height of the trees which grow near poles(cold climate) is different from those which grow in tropics(warm type of climate). If there is a change in climate due to global warming, the trees near the poles will undergo more changes in their type than that of the trees in the tropics.
