Wow, could you pick two more different cars?
I like the RX-8, but it has too many issues if you aren't very on top of maintenance. If so, stay away from it.

This is like mixing apples and oranges. I am assuming that you want some sport. RX8 is a nice car, love the Wankel Engine! One of my faves. The Jeep is pretty common but is a domestic car easier and cheaper to fix.
The question is, what kind of thrill you want? Or just looking for a status symbol? I would like better more of a road vehicle than a jeep unless I want to go off road. But I think much likely this will not be the case and will be an Urban 4X4, that is a waste of car, money and even more gas. Have you checked a Chevy Cobalt? It will surprise you. Is a rebadged German Opel.
The SUV is no much safer than a Minivan is just a Fad now these days. Beside, they are belly button, everyone has one :-)

id choose the jeep because its going to be more useful to you than the Mazda will be,the jeep will also carry you around in bad weather really good,the Mazda wont go that good,jeeps are good vehicles if you take care of them,i have owned a few ,and plan on getting another one,good luck on it.
