Saffron is a very expensive spice, it won't take long for other kids to figure it out and use it against her. Think of her going to her first job interview after graduating from Yale. Hello, I'm Saffron, I'm here to meet with the VP of Marketing!? Does this seem ok to you?

I think it would be a interesting twist for names, and it would certainly stand out from the other school children. Say the name outloud with the babys last name a few times, and see how you like it, that's really the best way to come up with the name, but I think it'd be sweet for a girl. Then again, if you follow 60s music... don't listen to the song about Saffron, it uses the name in relation to the drug Saffron, which is weird. Either way Saffron with the middle name Lilly or something would be really cute I think.

Saffron is a spice.

As a name, it has an sort of exotic feel to it.

I think that it is really pretty and cute. It fits in with the trend of having "on" names, but is stilli unique. It is very rare-- not even in the top 1000 for the states. It has the cute nickname Saffa or Saffie

I say, if you both like it, go for it! Saffron is one of the most precious and valuable spices, so the meaning is nice for your little girl. And it's pretty too... like a lily almost. Check out the link.

It reminds me of a book I read once called "Saffy's Angel". There was a little girl named Saffron whose primary caretaker was her grandfather. When he passed away, he left a message for her in his will. "To Saffy I leave her angel".

It turns out that the angel was a stone statue that she had admired in his garden as a child. The book is her journey to the angel and how she finally finds peace.

A very lovely story, and a beautiful name.

Go for it!

I have a cousin named Saffron, and until she was born I'd never heard of it, especially in Australia, which is where we live. Her middle name is 'Winsome' which is an old family name. Her sister's names are Lily and Ruby (RIP) and her brother's name is Reuben.
