The Dutch first settled there in 1624 or 383 years ago. That was the first European settlement. Prior to that, the area was home to Lenape Native Americans.

About 400 years ago (the early 1600's). They came from The Netherlands (they were Dutch).

original leader of the settlers was Peter Stuyvesant (1612-1672) (that's where the cigarettes get their name) in the middle 17th Century and he called the town New Amsterdam .. later the English called it New York

Are you referring to Colonists? They came from the Netherlands and England.
If you are referring to the natives, supposedly they came from Asia.
