I have a Bionaire filter & it works pretty well. It is column shaped, about 3 ft. tall & sometimes you can hear some vibration from the plastic screens.

If I were to get another one, I'd consider a short square one & check for vibrating noises. I'd also research Consumer Reports. I looked @ CR after I had made my purchase & their recommendations would have helped me make a better decision.

The one I have does a pretty good job of clearing the air & helps my allergies a bit.

We have a Hunneywell. I am not sure about allergies. We have eczema and its supposed to help cut down on the dust. I don't think it really does anything. The filter gets dirty and filled with dust, but we still have dust everywhere and in the air. I don't recommend it but my husband seems to think it works which is why we have it.

We have an Ionic Breeze. Actually, we have one in every room. They are outstanding! We used to have tons of cheap air filters and they were loud and the filters were messy and expensive over the course of time. We decided to check into the Ionic Breeze and I heard nothing but good things about them. We went to the store to buy one and found the display. We called for help and requested that they plug one in and turn it on so we could hear how loud it was. She smiled and told us that is was plugged in and on HI. WOW was all we could say, it was SO QUIET. We actually had to put our hand in front of it to feel the air coming out so we could believe her. They were on sale, buy one and get one 50% off so we bought two to try them out. The store we bought them from stated that we could return them within 30 days with no questions asked. We plugged them in at home and within a few days we were hooked. They are so quiet, don't take up much space as they are free standing and are very easy to clean. They do not have filters so you don't have to change / replace anything. You just pull out the collection grid and wipe it off and put it back in. I will never say that they take everything out of the air but they sure do take a lot of stuff out of the air. My husband and I are both breathing much easier. We both have bad allergies. We could not believe the amount of stuff that the grid collects. We just take a damp cloth and wipe the grid down and then a dry cloth to make sure it is dry and put it back in and turn it back on. We liked them so much we went back and bought four more for a total of six units. They are not cheap by any means but with the buy one and get one 50% off we couldn't pass up the discount (during the holidays). We feel that over the course of time they will end up being cheaper than other air filters though. With the cost of the other cheap air filters that we constantly had to replace because they broke and the cost of the replacement filters every two weeks or once a month times the number of air filters we had in the house it was costing a fortune. We have about $1500.00 in the six air filters that we have with the discounts. I know that sounds like a lot of money and it is but we figured it out and found that we were spending around $1000.00 a year just in replacement filters. We feel that it was well worth the up front cost for the quality of air we were getting, easy cleaning of the filters and noise reduction. We have two cats (and my husband is allergic to cats) and they used to run away from the old air filters when they got a piece of dust in them and they snapped and popped and made noise. Now the cats don't even know the air filters are there and the same goes for our friends and family when they come over. I hope this information helps you, good luck!
