into the woods jack audition help?

I am a 15 year old student at a high school in myrtle beach, SC. We are putting on Into the woods for our spring musical. We have been told to put toghter a song and monolog for our auditon. I have found a monolog to music, but i am struggleing on a song choice. I have a few choices i have came up with with my music director's help.I am one of the more respected fine arts kids at our school so i want to try to get agood part. And jack seems like he would be fun to be =).

"Sit down your rocking the boat" from Guys and Doll's
and "Miracle of Miracles" from Fiddler on the Roof


i am curious if you have any song advice or advice about the character if so i would greatly appreciate it.

I highly suggest you rent the DVD that came out in 1990. It's a good version starring Bernadette Peters and a number of other notable theatre stars. Jack sings Giants in the Sky which is a great song. You wouldn't normally sing it for the audition, but you should be very familiar with just in case. I would look to other Sondheim songs for audition material.

Here's a list of other Sondheim shows. There aren't many character's like Jack, but sometimes director's prefer that you sing from the same composer particularly with Sondheim so they know you can handle the material. Since this is a school production, they may even have you sing from the schore. Find out asap what the director usually does and ask him or her directly if you can.

Seeing as Into the Woods is by Stephen Sondheim, I'd prepare a song from another work of his. That way you show you can handle the style! Something from Follies, Candide, Company, whatever, just something else by him would work nicely.
