I'm writing an summary and analysis essay on the book The Pearl. I have to write the introduction to make the reader want to read my essay. I have no idea about how do this. Help???

I have to offer insight and critical thoughts about what I read. What exactly does that mean? Just to comment how the pearl brought nothing but evil to Kino and his family. I'm confused?

I have never read this book, but if the pearl brings bad luck; maybe you could start out with something like:

"Y'all know how diamonds are a girl's best friend; well, I'm here to tell you; pearls are a girl's worst enemy!

I don't know for sure if this would work or not, depends on the context of the story!
