When i go into the dr. for my baby check-up they don't take the blood everytime they have only done that about three times, and i am 39 weeks pregnant. Also when they have me pee in the cup they don't give me them wet towel things they use to wipe yourself off with first. Is this normal? Also i had my cervix checked earilar and my back has been hurting since and i have been sore, has that ever happend to you? Thanks

It's perfectly normal to have some cramping, discomfort and sometime a little spotting after an exam so don't worry about that.

They do not check my blood at every visit. Only at certain times during the pregnancy are they screening for certain things.

Unless they think you have an infection, a urine sample is all that is needed, not a "culture." My midwife just checks my urine for protein and sugar at each visit.

You are not supposed to get your blood checked every time. I only had it done 2 times. You can use the wet towel things, but you don't have to and it doesn't change the results any. Backs do hurt during pregnancy, and after too! That much weight is hard on anybody's back! :) I don't know why it happened after your cervix was checked, probably just a coincidence. Good luck on having a healthy baby! Have fun!

The others are right about the blood drawing. Unless something is wrong they only need to draw it about 3-4 times for routine tests. As far as peeing in the cup goes, they are more than likely dipping for protein in your urine. Wiping wont change the results. They have this pH strip that tests for protein, blood, and other things in your urine. Protein in urine can be indicative of preeclampsia, which is dangerous, and that's why they test for it when you go. A vaginal exam this late in pregnancy can sometimes cause your body to begin the early symptoms and stages of labor. The back pain may be contractions (everyone feels them differently), but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are in labor. Your body might just be getting ready for labor. It could also be a coincidence that you started hurting after the exam because you are in the late stages of pregnancy, and it was time for the baby to get moving. Good luck with the baby!

Everyone else is correct. They don't take you blood at every visit, they just take it a couple of times to run certain tests that are only needed one time. They don't make you use the moist towel unless they are collecting urine for a bacterial culture - which they don't do unless they suspect you have a urinary tract infection, the rest of the time they are just dipping for protein, and a wipe is not necessary. And yes, it's normal to be more crampy or have a back ache after having your cervix checked.

I had bloods taken 4 time in my last pregnancy. So I would say thats normal. I was never given any thing to wipe with before doing urine test!! At 39 wks having your cervix checked could bring on labour pains and sometimes yoiu can have a back labour.

Yes normally you have only 3 blood tests throughout the pregnancy and if you are peeing on the strip to check for protein I never got the wipes either but if its in a cup and they are checking your urine then you should ask for wipes.

I only had my blood taken a few times when preggers. I was never given wet towel things. The baby may be dropping that may be causing slight contractions.. Not enough to actually cause labor, but getting your body ready for it. It is normal for lower back pain, pressure in your lower abdomen, and the feeling of bubbles, or flutters in your cervix area.

They dont take blood from you EVERY time, lol they do it for different tests like cystic fibrosis, the triple screen for DS, iron check... etc... they should have told you what each of your blood tests were for.... My doc never told me to wipe with the wipes n all that, but they are available in the bathrooms at my docs office. ( I do use them anyway) and the back pain after the cervix check didnt happen to me, but dont mean it's something..talk to the doc about that.. it could be a coincidence that it happened then and you just may have back labor

i think of its standard. I even have some average bleeding and cramping in spite of everything of my pap smears, i had fallen on my abdomen the day previous (im 27 wks prego) and became into monitored for 8 hrs. i had contractions and that they checked a number of situations to work out if i became into dilating and that i wasn't yet on the instant im slightly spotty and crampy. they advised me that it may take place and in common terms to agonize if it became into greater then spots.
