so im gonna turn 16 soon and i'll be getting a car, its probably gonna be like pretty old and... broken, ... but the question is, what companies would be my best bet for a car that will hold together? i've always seen european cars as being built better, should i go with one of those or what?

japanese cars such as nissan, honda are VERY good at lasting a long time. american cars are much easier to fix and get parts. and european cars such as BMW, mercedes, audi........i would not touch them so many of them blow (bmw and audi!)...and mercedes.......you dont have the money for. good luck hope it helps...check out craigslist.com to look for a car.

Well, Consumer Reports magazine just came out with the results of their annual reliability survey of all car makes and models: To summarize, the Japanese brands such as Honda and Toyota came out on top, American models generally are good and have improved much over the last few years, and European makes such as Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, Audi, and Volvo generally came in last. High priced European cars does not automatically mean better quality.

Well most vehicles last long if well kept and then there are those with no hope... anyway Toyota and Honda are real good if you are looking for something that you can customize or good gas mileage... european cars are also good if well kept but it could get expensive parts and labor... you should really get a budget and see what is in your price range... go to autotrader input the max and min price you would like to see select the body types and also some colors...this will minimize repeats and give you a better selection.

for a first car i would recommend a simple safe and reliable
my picks:
1 volvo 2 series still a lot of these around and most were well cared for. ipd usa.com is a great place for parts
2 honda civic 1990 and up [these are valve benders] but will last forever if you keep a fresh timing belt every 60k and change the oil every 3000miles.
3 toyota pickup or corolla both last forever as long as rust doesnt eat them.
good luck and drive responsibly and for your mom and dads sake[if not your own] use your seat belts.

European cars are very very expensive to fix. Jap cars just don't last that long. Get something America. It will be cheaper and easier to get parts for.
