I don't think there's much you can do about it other than keep it in a nice well ventilated area and don't play too much at one time...
The newer 360's are less likely to get the rod since Microsoft is trying to fix it and even if it does happen, Microsoft will fix it and send it back to you so it's not that big of a problem but it's pretty annoying.
I myself have had a xbox 360 for almost 1.5 years now and haven't had any problems.
And salam

I don't think there's really a way to prevent getting the ring of death if you're one of those unlucky 30% that gets a faulty 360.

What you can do is reduce your chance of getting it. First, don't put the 360 inside a cabinet with closed doors. Try to keep the 360 on an open shelf where it has a lot of room, away from heat sources, such as a radiator.

If possible, get the 360 with HDMI output. There's an additional heat sink in the new one that's supposed to keep the 360 a lot cooler. Go to www.benheck.com and see how you can tell if your 360 has an addition heat sink using a digital camera.

Don't play the 360 for hours on end.

honestly, there really isn't anything u can do about it. u can get a xbox 360 cooler fan to prolong its life, but unless some miracle happens, all that will do will make it last a month or two longer. xbox 360 isn't really the best system to go with(no, it doesn't suck, 100 times better than a PS3).
Every single 360 out there will eventually have "The Ring of Death" due to a hardware failure because of the way they are made. microsoft is too lazy to fix the problem.

All I know about the three rings of death is that it's a malfunction or something with the hardware in the xbox. From what I remember my friend telling me, I think it only happens in the first ones they made, but I could be wrong.

Sorry I'm not of much help.

basically dont do anything stupid. Dont leave it sitting in your car while its 100 degrees outside or stuff like that. The red ring of death happens when the xbox gets fried, so whatever you do dont let it get overheated. Take a break every once and a while...better to take a 15 minute break from halo 3 than to break your xbox and have to buy a new one

Well, do what you would do with any other console and try to keep it in as good a condition as possible. And for the games, try not to get them scratched at all. It wont work even if it only has like, 5 scratches or something (or at least that's what happens to me).

If you get the Elite version, I believe all the hardware errors that cause it have been corrected.

otherwise, don't leave the system on for very long periods of time to prevent it from Overheating.
