I like them both a LOT but Ruth would probably be the better. Yes Hank Aaron was a GREAT hitter but so was Ruth, and Ruth could also hit very well which is rare for a pitcher since most pitchers can't hit very well.

Ruth. Baseball is not centered on how much home runs you make, its also flexibility(how many positions you play, Ruth played pitcher and outfield), and championship rings, and Babe Ruth has a ton of those.
and the best ACTIVE baseball player today is A-Rod. He can Hit, Run, and Field and he has an arm. He plays SS and 3rd. What he needs is a championship ring.
IMHO, Babe Ruth > A-Rod
but at least a-rod still has time to try proving he's better

Why does it matter? I mean neither one of them is playing the game now. And the only thing you really have to go off is statistics on paper. That’s it. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone alive today that has watched both of these guys play and can give you an honest assessment of the depth of Ruth and Aaron. It’s easy, however, to say who is better based on numbers…or maybe it isn’t you know. Everyone is going to have their opinion. Some people hate Barry Bonds. Clearly he has more production than A-Rod. If you ask fans of the modern game to pick one, a lot of people are going to pick A-Rod simply because Bonds has been vilified and have no regard for his numbers.

Well great for you and your grandpa, Sinatra. Like I said previously, people who have seen both play are few and far between. My point was it is these folks who are in a position to really answer these type of questions. Not some 14yr old sitting at his computer with Google at his disposal who is only going to take numbers into consideration....I'm just mystified why such a question is posed. They were both great players. Trying to say this person or that person is the best it is just simply a pointless exercise. That's like saying who is the best baseball team ever. How many people will say the Yanks? How many people will disagree? A pointless exercise.

Hey maadams2004
My great grandfather was born in 1915
He has seen Babe Ruth, A-Rod and everyone in between. That includes the greats like Mantle, DiMaggio and yes, Hammerin' Hank.
He'll tell you any day, Babe Ruth IS better.

Aaron was a great player, but Ruth by far casts the longest shadow in baseball history. Remember, he could pitch too, and quite well.

Ruth was a freak. Could pitch very well, left handed sinker baller, Obviously could hit so natural, and had some speed. Just he didn't have the heart of a David Eckstein.
He was a slob who some times played drunk, always smoked and treated people like monkeys. Naturally he was so good.
Aaron was a professional who put together year in and year out massive numbers.
I would have Aaron as my clean up any time...

Race.........why would someone chsoe because of that? I'm going with Ruth because he could pitch and hit. Aaron was great but Ruth was the greatest.

Babe Ruth since he was a dominant pitcher who could also hit really well which was why he stopped pitching.
