Why is it that almost everytime a black person makes it in life without being all gangsta or in the race baiting game, they are considered sell outs and uncle toms??? I just dont understand the logic.

I've never understood that statement. What does "selling out" the Black community mean exactly? Is it being successful? Is it being articulate and not relying on slang and swear words? Is it not glorifying violence against women and crime in general? Is it staying away from drugs? Seems to me a nice guy like Smith would be someone to point to as a role model...not as a sell-out.

Will Smith is one of the only black men I have seen that appears to know that the most important thing about being a man is not just getting someone pregnant but actually raising a child and being a good father and husband. The black community needs more traditional families instead of all this irresponsible pimp noise they are always spewing...

How so? With good rap music that can be a good influence on the black community, as well as being a talented and humorous actor? I do not see how that is "selling out" anyone, unless you want the whole of the black community listening to the horrible things that some rappers sing about, do you want that, 'cause that would be the real sell out of the black community.

*(Thank you Top Contributor)
He has not sold out anyone or anything. He has created (paying his dues) a career which is stellar. He has demonstrated that it is possible to have a marriage, a great show business career and a family life that is not overrun by dreadful paparazzi (going parent teacher conferences, ball games etc.).
How sad that you must intimate that he has turned his back on people whose traditions are rooted in family hood.

Maybe they sold him out. Why does the black community want to be know as low educated and poorly spoken so anyone who isn't is considered a sell out?

I don't think so. I think he is a great role model for young children, regardless of race. He is talented, successful, well-spoken and seems to keep himself out of trouble. He also seems to maintain a wonderfull relationship with his wife and children, at least publicly. That's more than I can say about other men, again, regardless of race.

I am not black, but I don't think he did. I think he is a good role model for people of all colours. He hasn't had a lot of drama involved with him, like so many other celebs. He has been married to his wife for quite some time. His child seem to be brought up well. Seems like a decent guy to me, and a good actor.

I don't think so, at least he married a Black woman unlike the others.....They know who they are. Also, Blacks have to do whatever they have to do to make $$$$$$, it does'nt matter who you work with or hang around. Will did nothing wrong.
