Isn't there normally 30 days for closing on a house? I am asking because the house I rented ( in KY) got sold and the owners told me when it went up for sale that they were required to give me 30 days to move out. Now that the house is sold, the real estate agent told me I have to pay the new owner rent for the 30 days. Am I getting screwed? I didn't have a lease and I was out within 15 days.

Closing on the sale of the house has nothing to do with your rent. Yes, you owe money for the rent. Try to negotiate for half a month. You did live there for 15 days.

Laws change from state to state. In Florida when you are month to month only two weeks notice needs to be given. In your case you did occupy the house for 15 days. Did you have a current lease when the house sold? Because if you did then the new owner has to honor that lease and if you moved out before it expired then he has every right to expect you to pay the month's rent.

Furthermore, depending on the terms of the lease he could also require you to pay until he finds a new tenant!

By law the landlord has to give you a 30 day notice to terminate a month to month (no written lease) tenancy.

You are liable for the rent through the termination date regardless of whether you chose to stay for the whole month or not. You are renting by the month, not by the day or week.
