if you have google just type in tarantaula and youwill be flooded with information. Also, lots of so called taranataula are really Wolf spiders.
They are scary creatures, real fast, and migrate up to houses out of fields of grass. There is a spray that will kill them and run them off.

Try these links- info on texas tarantulas. If its not a tarantula, you will need to search "texas spiders" on google images, or just search the words " texas spiders" and see what sites come up, then try to I.D. it. Another possiblity would be a wolf spider. If this thing is huge( 3" around, including legs), its probably a tarantula.

If the critter is indeed a tarantula, maybe try emailing a picture to www.swiftsinverts.com , I buy my tarantulas from them and they have always been very helpful with questions, sexing, and the like.. good luck

..oh, and be careful when handling the spider, some have ulcerating hairs that can cause irritated and ichy skin

It's probably a Texas tan tarantula, Aphonopelma anax. They are very common here in Texas. They are a burrowing spider, and dig amazing burrows. I have two, both of which are in enclosures with several inches of soil, and they dig tunnels all over the place. They are also a very docile tarantula, and bites are rare, even from ones in the wild. They dig deep burrows to escape the summer heat, but are everywhere when heavy spring rains flood their burrows, forcing them to the surface. Here's a pic of one of mine:

You're dad is your brother, and you have a son in TX, in wich you have a daughter with? It's probably an African Rock Spider.
