What type are you referring to? The portable ones that are hand operated or the hydraulic ones that hang from the ceiling of the shop? I have helped my hubby lift many engines with both. The real trick to it is to make sure that all bolts are off the engine before you do the major lift. If one is left on there could be lots of trouble. If you are lifting it with the transmission on, it could also bind up as the engine separates from the car body.
