I am trying to create a doll with a stabbing motion and cannot seem to find a small enough oscillating motor. I would like one that is battery operated and doesn't move too fast.

I've had this same issue kind of in my long life. One of the places I looked into, LONG before the WWW, was stores that had promotional/ battery operated/ animated display pieces. Often they would just discard them, simply because the promo had finished.

Obviously now with the WWW there are likely hundreds of sites offering such.

You might also try radio Shack/ Circuit City/ a store that sells electronics salvage stuff. Here in Central FL we have a GREAT ONE...SKYCRAFT,,,they may even have a web site?

OR you might just buy something NEW and destroy it simply for the motor. In that regard BABY TOYS might help...Mobiles for cribs; etc.???

Just my two cents.

Capacitors are used to help with the power spike needed to get a motor turning initially by storing a charge. If it's wired in parallel, you are actually defeating it's purpose and using extra energy for no reason.

You can use a wiper motor out of a car runs on 12volt .You can get them at a wreckers but leave the arms on it for the motion you want I use one to raise and lower a coffin lid. works great. You can also pick up a rheostat at Radio Shack and use it to control the speed

no real difference, you might notice the motor run slightly after the power it shut off. the only real reason to put a cap on a motor would be to help with variant signals.

I have a little hand-held fan from the dollar store. It runs on batteries. Maybe something like that would work.
