"Wayne's game's been (reviewed) by all four selectors and myself, probably under more scrutiny than any other game due to the interest in it," O'Brien said today.

"There were errors made. There was a scrum turnover not given in the first half that should have been.

"There was clearly the forward pass that was missed by all three officials and, at the end of the day, with Wayne being the referee he must take responsibility for that.

"There were two calls, one with a hand in the ruck and one with offside at a ruck in the last 10 minutes, which the touch judge should have given him.

"We've certainly reviewed the touch judges' performance and that's been reflected in our appointments for the third-fourth playoff and the final. Both of those touch judges have missed out."

"I think there were a lot of factors involved in New Zealand not winning that game and one of them was some issues with refereeing and touch judging -- and we've always said that"

It was always said the referee and his officials weren't up to standard.
The good thing of this outcome is South Africa, England, France and Argentina will have much better match officials.

So............. just so I've got it right .......... And I'm not taking anything away from the French as they played an amazing game.
The Referee and his Officials did not loose the All Blacks game against France...
They helped France win against the All Blacks.

Great.. I feel much better.
At the end of the day in opinion, I believe Paddy O'Brien did a Shitty job and that he and the IRB are responsible to ensure that all Referees and Officials are up to standard before going into the Quarter Finals, Semis and Final.

Frances has done an amazing job of hosting the World Cup and most definitely made this one of the best World Cup ever, but the IRB has done a shitty job.
I believe they got so tied up in all the hype and the amazing job that France had to offer, that they forgot to do their job.

I think it's a total about face. Here is an IRB quote that followed the game and was obviously before this review. "The criticism of referee Wayne Barnes following the France versus New Zealand quarter-final match on Saturday 6 October is completely unwarranted". Further on in the same article O'Brien flippantly refers to the forward pass saying "New Zealand losing that game was not all about the forward pass. The pass was forward but that's rugby refereeing'. In neither of these sentences does he say there were real issues with the refereeing. Is he finally admitting that the IRB was wrong to have appointed a rooky ref to such a vital game and that this decision may have lost New Zealand the game? Personally I don't think the IRB have either the decency of the courage to do so.

When NZ faced Australia in the Cricket World Cup Final of 1982 NZ were in a commanding position UNTIL Martin Snedden caught Greg Chappell in the deep.
Snedden caught the ball as it was dropping several feet in front of him with a spectular dive and slide.
The umpires suggested that the ball had been grassed before it was caught and the catch was disallowed even though the replay camera clearly showed the catch had been taken legally.
When it came to the final ball of the match NZ required 6 runs to win the match and the Cup.
The Australian captain Greg Chappell told his bowler , brother Trevor to bowl the ball underarm along the pitch to make it impossible to hit for six.
The umpires were consulted and BOTH AGREED IT WAS A LEGITIMATE DELIVERY EVEN WHEN THE RULE BOOK CLEARLY STATED that the ball could only be delivered overarm in first class or one day cricket.
The ball was delivered like a lawn bowl toward Brian Mckechnie who blocked it and threw his bat away in disgust.
The wicketkeeper had already walked off the park before the bowl had even been bowled.
Result Australia won by 4 runs.
I don't think the All Blacks have ever had to compete with those in charge of the game making a decision like THAT so my thoughts are hey we lost to a better team on the day.
If we had whitewashed France as was expected bad decisions against the All Blacks would not have been an issue.
The issue was that they did not play well enough to beat the French and a bad referee on that day.
The game is lost. The World Cup is lost. No amount of enquiry into the performance of referees or touch judges is going to give the Blacks another game in this competition so why waste the time and energy on it.
Just look forward to 2011.

We have had far worse refs and still won, and won well.

Highlighting the short comings of the ref only serves to make New Zealand people out to be bitter, sore losers.

The following is a quote from a much wiser man then Paddy O'Brien

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

There will be plenty more victories and world cups for the men in black. We don't need to look for excuses for losing - not our style.

The ref cost us the game. but then again the might All Blacks shouldn't of been in the situation where France only needed a tri to win.
