i just bought 3 tiger barbs for our tank. how can i tell which is female and male? also, should i get more? i dont want them to nip my other fish. i have a goby and cherry barbs also.

The female Tiger Barbs will be thicker around the stomach area, and may show less of a green hue in their black stripes. Males will generally have a redder nose and darker black/green stripes. Definitely go get at least 3 more... if left as they are, they will certainly be stressed and tear through your other fish. You should only consider keeping Tiger Barbs if you have a 20 gallon tank or larger. These Barbs will reach 2.5-3 inches, and if they feel confined, they will not hesitate to lash out at tankmates.
