Volume is measured in cubic units. The amount of ice remaining would be expressed in cubic meters or cubic milimeters, not milimeters which is a measure of length.

3/4 of 8 cubic meters is 6 cubic meters which leaves 2 cubic meters of ice. By definition, one meter is 1000 milimeters.

One cubic meter, a meter on a side, would be 1000 milimeters on a side. Its volume would be 1x1x1 cubic meters
or 1000x1000x1000 cubic milimeters or 1,000,000,000 cubic milimeters.

The 2 cubic meters of ice remaining would be

2x1000x1000x1000 cubic milimeters or

2,000,000,000 cubic milimeters.

Notice you have to multiply by 1000 three times when converting the units of volume from meters to milimeters since each of the three dimensions must be changed to milimeters.

If the original block of ice was in the shape of a cube each side would be s = cuberoot(8) = 2. If the block melted so that what remained was still cube and of volume 2 cubic meters then each side would be the cube root of

2,000,000,000 or about 1260 milimeters.

1/4*8 = 2 m^3 of ice left
If you are talking about cubic mm, then there would be
2 X 10^9 mm^3

8 cubim meter less 3 quarters = 2 cubic meter (m^3)

convert 2 m^3 to mm^3

2m^3 (1000 000 000mm^3/m^3) = 2000 000 000mm^3

one meter is 1000mm
a block of ice 1 m x 1m x 8 m is 8 m^3
1000 x 1000 x 8000=8 x 10^9 mm^3
.75 x (8 x10^8) = 6 x 10^9
leaving 2 x 10^9
or
2,000,000,000 mm^3
of course doing these yourself is the easiest way.. so please check my answer (as you gleen from it) very carefully as i am prone to make little mistakes....:) Good luck from the E

volume = 8 cu.m.
remain = 1/4(8) = 2 cu.m.
side = cube root(2) (1000 = 1259.92 mm.
vol left = 1259.92 ^3 = 2 x 10^9 cu.mm.

1 cubic meter = 1 000 000 000 cubic millimeter
8 (cubic meters) = 8 000 000 000 cubic millimeter

Ice left is 1/4 or 25% or .25
8 000 000 000 cubic millimeter * 1/4 = 2 000 000 000 cubic millimeter or 2 * 10^9 cubic millimeter
