I am looking into an opinel 6 knife. I would like to get a sharpening stone or two (or three) to sharpen it and other tools around the house. I've heard about Arkansas stones- can I just get a general purpose one or do I have to get three grades, if they do come in three grades. Another option would be to get a Lansky sharpening set, but those are more expenisve than a single Arkansas stone. Any particular items I should get and opinions would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much!

Get a ceramic rod. I use one all the time to give my knives a razor edge.

If you're good with your hands, two stones,
coarse and fine should answer your needs.
You can buy two sided carborundum stones
at the hardware store that will answer quite
nicely, and are better than 'natural` stone.

The Lansky Set is a high end gismo that does
maintain a constant angle and gives even the
clumsiest of us a really fine job.
If you're a perfectionist, and do a lot of sharpening,
it's worth the dough. Otherwise not.
