I think at times -- very rarely -- it has a valid purpose.

But the number of situations where the govt absolutely needs to take private property -- and cannot find any other solution -- are a tiny fraction of the times govts do it because it's convenient and allowed.

Where is the wildest corners of some demented mind did it suddenly become OK for you to steal someones land, just because he bought it first and does not want to sell it to you for the price you have offered? That is exactly what has happened in countless cases where a private entity has used eminent domain to take away land held by one private individual and give it to a second private individual or company.

I do not care how much new tax money, how much good for the community or other CRAP they try to hang on it, it is legalized STEALING.

Eminent Domain should only be used to take land from private citizens for the benefit of the public and then only if the public is going to own the land after the taking. Such as for schools, highways or other public matters. NEVER to give one persons property to another private group or person.

It has been said that everyone has a price and everything is for sale. But if you are a developer that wants a bargain, you run to the local government and trump up some excuse to using eminent domain to steal the land, instead of having to pay the kind of price they should to get land they do not own.
