Sounds as if the winter's cutting in and the plant life is becoming dormant. With many shrubs, grass and small trees, watering will only cause water logging of the roots. At worst, with the low temperatures you experience in Canada, the water will freeze at the roots and kill the plant!

You need to look at the condition of the soil, because if the soil is dry, you will water, however if the soil is water logged you can tell. If the soil is in a wet condition, then you would be able to smell the decay or a putrid damp smell. Another factor is whether your plants would like to be watered which depends on the facts like water lilies would like water, but cactus would not.

Question: do you get rain or snow during the winter?
After all, that is natural "watering". Trees and shrubs still need moisture; just don't water when it is going to freeze within a few hours.
As to the lawn and flowers, etc., if they are in need of water (such as turning brown or the soil is quite dry), then, yes, water them as long as it is not going to freeze within a few hours.

During the winter, most plants slow down their metabolism. You don't say whether you mean outdoors or indoors? But any wayYou don't need to water anymore outdoors. Indoor plants are much the same. Only water when top soil is dry, or maybe once a month.

You won't need to water as much...but if the dirt around the plants or yard are completely dry...then you need to water. Dry ground lets cold air in...and make it easy for the cold to freeze the roots. Roots being frozen will kill the plant...and even the grass.
So as long as area is moist...it's OK.

i do no longer understand what element of the international you're in, yet how long is an prolonged weekend? What it relatively is recommended to objective doing is putting your seedling residences in yet another seedling field ... variety of like a double boiler, and placed wanter interior the backside field, making specific there are holes for the soil interior the seedlings to entice the moisture up. yet another suggestion could be, reckoning on the size of your seedlings, to completely moist a paper towl and place that over maximum suitable of your seedlings ... And yet another suggestion could be to completely mist each little thing, then encase a table or shelf in plastic, leaving some air flow. The plastic will help to hold in moisture.

I would stop watering your flowers when you get the first frost. If they are plants bring them in to the house because the cold will kill them and the flower will just die. Good Luck~ Hope I helped ya!
