Along the Charles River on Memorial Drive, there are Sycamore Maple trees lining the street, cooling the air and providing shade for joggers, baby and dog walkers and lovers on benches.
There are also Canadian geese, and sculls rowing by in the Charles, an occasional sail boat in the river.
These Maples are actually in Cambridge, near Harvard University, and Alston Brighton.
However, when folks come to town, they NEVER differentiate between the cities. Folks call everything with in 10 miles of Logan Airport BOSTON.
I have found this huge beautiful tree in many older communities, and even on the grounds of a few old State Institutions.
If you look at a Sycamore Maple, as it ages, all its bark seems to peel off leaving a satiny greycolored skin exposed, with white and cream high lights, and extra large maple tree shaped leaves.
Oh there is one down side....I believe it is now on the Massachusetts Invasive Species list. But I don't know why!
I am sure some cynic will fill us all in How ever!
