he texted on the phone one time last week "you don't understand, I want you to be my girlfriend".
then, the other night, he said "ur on a date, aren't you?" then I said "would you care if i was" and he said "yes".
so, am i his girlfriend? or not? and, is there a way I can bring it up without pushing him or making it like i'm nagging him??
he doesn't call me that much, or text me too much. it comes & goes in spurts. like when he feels like it.
maybe i should tell him i'm going to see other people.

yes, you should definatly see other people. Don't waste your time. He's only interested in you when he's bored. OR he is interested and just doesn't want to appear to be a nag either... Either way see other people, you can't discover the fish in the sea without getting into the water!
Sounds like he's either playing you or he's way to immature to be in a relationship anyway~ Move forward, you only get one go at life!!

I would talk to him and see where he thinks that you stand. The way that things are right now, you aren't dating at the moment but he wants to be because he's jealous that you could be with someone else. Tell him how you feel and that communication has to be consistent and not whenever and that he's got to be more mature with his attitude if you date him....

If your worried about nagging him, then you should check your self worth... Aren't you worth being treated properly? If you are a "girlfriend" then he should treat you like one, clearly.
