Rose commands so much attention because fans, devotees, acolytes, apologists, enablers, and groupies remain in awe of his greatest record, Most Outs Made -- Career, with well over 10 thousand. No one else comes close.

That's a real record, BTW, and Rose does own it. It comes in a package deal with his hits and all.

I consider the Hall either a complete non-issue or by far the last, least important topic involving Rose. In the very, very best case scenario -- which never will happen -- the Rose story would end there. But his enablers and apologists want to START there, and that is, simply, laughably wrong-headed. But that's who they are and what they do.

Most sports fans, particularly baseball fans, admire players with "working class " ethics and Pete Rose epitomized this attitude. He worked hard, fought every at-bat, hustled on every play and never whined or complained how disrespected he was or how badly he was paid. Plus his teams won. He was a key player on the Big Red Machine teams from the 70's and helped bring the Philadelphia Phillies their only World Series Title. People admired this, and especially older baseball fans who remember the game from the 50's and 60's.

I think most Rose fans( and baseball fans in general) think that Pete Rose deserves a place in the Hall of Fame based on his career statistics or because he has already been punished by his nearly decade and a half exile from baseball.

Besides, the Hall is already home to a number of players with questionable reputations. Cap Anson was a virulent racist who contributed to the atmosphere that lead to the "Gentlemen's Agreement" that excluded blacks; ditto for Ty Cobb. Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, unquestioned greats on the field were notorious womanizers and alcoholics off of it. A lot of fans believe that if there is room for these characters thereshould be room for Pete Rose.

I live on the west side of Cincinnati where Peter Edward Rose, Sr. grew up. There are still a lot of passionate Reds fans that think he's a god and his poop doesn't stink! Every time he comes to town, there are hoards of people that will gather around him. There's always petition drives to get him reinstated. The Reds keep trying to find ways to get around the MLB ban to involve him in Opening Day ceremonies and other endeavors.

Of course, I'm not originally from Cincinnati and it makes me physically ill to see these people so blindly loyal to a hardened criminal and a proven liar! How can people worship a man that blatantly destroyed their trust and dreams like he had/has?

All of his gear and records are in the Hall, may the only way the man gets in is with a pass that he has to purchase.

Pete Rose remains popular today because he is one of baseballs greatest players ever. It is terrible that his career has been shadowed by his betting on baseball when all he was really doing was betting on his own team to win. It wasn't like he was throwing games for money, he was giving himself extra motivation to win. I believe he should go to the Hall of Fame and the fact is with the amount of hits he had he should be. He never committed a crime besides betting on his team to win. Should a great baseball player be kept out of the hall for an offense so minor? Absoultely not! Induct him!

He is one of the greatest players of all time. He bet on baseball, but he didn't bet to throw games (it might have come to that eventually). He always bet on the Reds to win, IIRC.

He should be in the Hall of Fame. It doesn't mean he should be part of the current game. But, he should be in the Hall of Fame. And, letting him in while still alive wouldn't hurt anyone.
