The Beatles. No matter what people think, they can't deny the large influence on rock music the Beatles have made. They made contributions to many genres, sometimes even out of the rock category. They were highly innovative, doing things that other bands would never do because no one ever would think of that kind of stuff. And even if they could, putting it in their music would seem odd. But the Beatles made it work.
They're the most popular group in the world. All of their studio albums have gone at least platinum in the U.S. Plus, most of the albums they released (with the possible exception of Yellow Submarine) are legendary records that have become critically acclaimed. And their impact on popular culture...it's undeniable.
The songwriting partnership between Lennon and McCartney, their solo efforts within the band, George Harrison's emergence...each Beatle was a great songwriter, even Ringo Starr.
Honestly, this is a favorites question. But if you be fair, looking at all aspects, the Doors are good, but the Beatles are best.

Regardless of what you or I think, The Beatles shaped a generation's culture, fashion and music far moreso than the Doors and so they were the more influential band. In fact, the Doors may not have existed were it not for The Beatles evolving music the way they did. The Doors had more of a cult following but there is no denying they too were a major band and influence on rock music. Jim Morrison and John Lennon were both huge icons. I'd still go with the Beatles for their unbelievable influence that shaped a decade.

I am an old rock and roller, "hippie' person from the 60's, early 70's and listened to both. The Beatles were the beginners , actually Elvis was first, of rock and roll but the Rolling Stones rocked louder. I like Yellow Submarine, the movie. I guess the Beatles are the best because they had talent in singing, songwriting, movies, and John even wrote a book "There are no flies on me"

Definitely the Beatles. Lennon and McCartney were an amazing team. George Harrison wrote some profound songs. Ringo! Most innovative and revolutionary band rock has ever seen.
The Doors were good - Jim Morrison could write some great lyrics.

You cannot compare the Beatles with the Doors. Its not fair to the Doors. If you start with the first Beatle album, and go on to the next, you can hear the progression of musical ideas and innovations. Truly lovely melodies, and ever expanding lyrics make this comparison a no-brainer.
I always thought the Beach Boys and Allman Bros. were the best American band anyway.

They are both incredible. I love the music of both bands. I think I could argue this from song to song. Well, I'll go for the Beatles.
