People convicted of state crimes serve time in state prisons.
People convicted of federal crimes serve in federal prisons.

That's the general rule -- though there are rare exceptions.
Bank robbery may be prosecuted either at the state level, as robbery (among other things) and at the federal level, if the bank was federally insured. So, it could be either, depending upon who brought the charges (state or federal) and which level the conviction was at.
