two definitions, the second coming from the first which is A form of medieval drama in which the characters are qualites and things rather than humans, although it may have human or human-like characters, the play is allegorical, a symbolic representation of a religious tenent. The only extant play is Everyman. In modern theatre, a morality play is an allegorical representation which gives the story an additional level of meaning beyond the surface story-- a universal truth quality. Tennessee Williams said his Sweet Bird of Youth was a morality play. Certainly The Crucible by Arthur Miller is one.

go to a local college and they have tons of academic websites accessed for free that you cant get on your computer. ever hear of ancient "Noe plays?" they are powerful morality plays....your teacher would be impressed1
