They will give you a pelvic exam. You will lay on the table on your back and put your feet in stirrups and they will insert a speculum inside to open you up to take a look. They will also do a manual exam, which is inserting fingers inside to feel your uterus. This is not the most comfortable thing to go through in the world, but every woman goes through it. And when you get older you will need to have pap smears done once a year, which are done by doing a pelvic exam.

You made a good choice getting the Gardisil shot. They didn't have it when I was your age, so I never got it.

Trust me, you'll do fine during the exam.

Have you really researched this shot? They do not have any information on the long term affects of this shot, so for all we know it makes you sterile!!! Also the commercial even said that it MAY NOT prevent the cervical cancers it says it will prevent! So you could STILL get those four types of cervical cancer! Plus, it does not prevent all types.

I wouldn't get this even if I was in the age range for this vaccine.

The female exam is a breast exam and a pelvic exam. It doesn't hurt at all but it can be somewhat uncomfortable.

At my office, the doctor that I work for will do a breast exam. She'll check to make sure that there are no abnormal lumps or masses in your breats. She'll also do a pelvic exam. That's just feeling on your stomach to make sure she feels no masses in your stomach, as well as checking to make sure your ovaries feel normal. And lastly if she needs to, she'll do a pap test. This is just a quick swab in your vagina to screen for cervical cancer. But she doesn't do a pap right away. It depends on your sexual history. If you've been sexually active for at least 2 years or at the age of 18-21. But it's nothing to be scared of. At times the exam may be a little uncomfortable, but it's only for a few seconds. I know this is a lot of info, but I think you'll do fine. I hope this helps! I've been thru everything you're about to go thru. Good luck! =o)
