A mix of everything. Deeply conservative rural, cotton, cattle, and oil culture (Lubbock, Amarillo, Midland, Odessa) and liberal, urbanized cores (Austin, Dallas, Houston). The stress of immigration, but the benefits of Latin American cultural influence. Strongly religious attitudes in the conservative parts, frequently close-minded, but on the outside: a strong sense of pride, respect, and hospitality.

Diverse geography, mountains in the West, plains in the North, beautiful hill country in the middle, deep thick forests in the East and humid muggy coastal plains on the Gulf.

Texas is an enigma, a boiling pot, and a misunderstood mix of cultures, attitudes, and ideas all pressed under a booming economy and rapid growth. It's hard to list everything.

A cemetery outside of Yancy, TX that has a big monument of when an outstanding man of the time was buried and Texas was still a Republic. The Alamo where my cousin works, and we attended a special night reenactment last winter....I wrote a letter to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and it is on display at the Alamo, The Lone Prairie, tumbleweed, wide open spaces, where I met the love of my life.....buried my son, and call home.
