have we now become ruled by fear and xeniphobia? are our leaders using hysteria and illusion to cower us and claw back a bit of the power that they have lost in the past?
are our leaders letting the security forces and agencies have too much leeway to snoop in our own private busisness?
is there also too much of the political agenda being lead by the media, some of who might have their own agendas?
or am i smoking too much weed and being paranoid?? lol

Of course we are. That's how the powers that be manage to get draconian laws and measures passed and accepted as necessary by the population.
The introduction of cctv on a massive scale was preceded by issung crime figures that shocked the nation. a full scale media campaign later and cctv is now accepted as part of everday life.
The same campaign has been used over ID cards, Genetic Passports, Congestion Charging etc.
Smoking was a prime example - the use of the fear factor for passive smoking, cot deaths, drain on the NHS, bad teeth etc has ensured acceptance of legalised discrimination against those that smoke both in healthcare and employment rights.
The same system is now at work on obesity and alcohol both of which are now being shown as a drain on the NHS, lost working hours, pregnancy problems etc.
The best, and most comical so far, is the experts stating that obesity is a far bigger danger than smoking.
How long, I wonder, before overweight people are forced to sit outside public houses with the smokers because they take up too much room inside?? That is, of course, on condition that there are any pubs left as it is now being said that even one glass of wine a day is detrimental to your health and will cause a drain on the NHS finances in later years.

* The literal definition of a democracy is means via the the folk (demo potential human beings). once you're taking the folk out of the technique it ceases to be a democracy. * the possibilities to a democracy devoid of events, politicians and elections are: Dictatorship, Absolute Monarchy, Theocracy and Anarchy. * elections are no longer for which potential, they're for identifying on somebody to symbolize you. * reform? straightforward: ban donations from enormous business enterprise, cap government spending so as that it may never bypass into the purple, create a countrywide self sustaining fee against corruption, have an self sustaining auditor for all government spending. * i do no longer help government via lottery. there is no assure those human beings will characterize my hobbies in the event that they have not have been given any accountability.

A cynic may wonder where the political media stories come from .... Some may even go as far as to say that the government influence what we see and how they wish us to think about their long/medium-term plans. In all truth, we are surely just pawns in the money-men's game of monopoly ?

I don't need the media or the government to know the threats to this country, and my family. The internet has it all at the click of a mouse. Xenophobia, please. Islamofacistphobia is more like it and it is a healthy phobia. I wish you would try smoking that weed and expressing yourself freely in Iran or the mountains of Pakistan, maybe light one up with ole jolly boy bin Laden. lol

Yes, and the ID cards will be imposed by Brown as yet another means of controlling the masses, they are hardly needed for terrorist reasons as most of ours are home grown and would be given an ID card.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
Newspapers sell fear because fear sells. Don't be part of the vicious cycle.

You appear to have hit the nail on the head. Why do you think we get so many questioners on here who are terrified of other human beings? It is because they are being taught to, and like sheep...they follow.
