I think it is a beautiful name. Go with it or you will resent your mother forever.
And when it comes to teasing.....kids will find a way to tease with any name. I named one of my son's Erik and figured no way could anyone tease him...Well, I was wrong. In grammar school some kids called him Earache.
Don't listen to your mother...ok well listen to her, but the big thing to learn is that YOU are the one who makes the choices here. And I am talking about any advice you were given...you are the boss. You are the mom.
I would love to give a child that name..I would use the full name. You might want to give her a nick name or when older she might want a nickname. Nickey or Letie or Cole

Before I even clicked on your question and read the details, the first thing that came to mind was "nicorette". I mean, Nicolette is a beautiful name, but the other word was the first thing that popped into my mind! Why I like this name though is becuase it's very down to earth and it's pretty. Maybe you could try a variant of the name like Nichole or something like that?

Well just tell her never to smoke and people won't make that referrence- lol!
With Nicolette, I think of Nicolette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives and I always makes fun of celebrity's names - Kate BeckinSTALE, Terri Snatcher, Nelli Retardo, but I never thought of Nicorette Sheridan.
I don't think most people will make the nicorette reference, don't worry.

Wow. Nicolette Sheridan is so popular right now, and never ONCE did I think of Nicorette when I heard/read her name.
I think it's a nice name. I don't think you need to worry about teasing. But if it bothers you now that your mom mentioned it, maybe you just go with Nicole or Colette (Colette would be my preference).

It's not a bad name.. and If you really think about it, you can make a joke out of almost ANYBODY'S name.. including mine Casey "Spacy Casey" You go with your instincts.. I was worried when I named my son Brody "Grody Brody". If you love the name.. name your child Nicolette. You don't have control over what people will make fun of..

No, I know a Nicolette (and she doesn't use a nickname) and it's perfectly fine - no one cracks any jokes to her about it. I think it's a beautiful name, a little more uncommon but still familiar to the ear. Definitely use it if it's your favorite!

No, it's good. I have a friend named Nicolette and it's great becasue it's unique, but not totally out there and unheard of. If she has teasing problems she can go by Nicki.

It depends. I think it's kind of pretentious on a suburban WASPy kid, but if your family is very European (I've known girls with this name who were French, Polish, etc.) then it's beautiful. Given your mom's reaction, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you should stick with Nicole.
