Why is the democratic party of government symbolized by a donkey? Why is the republican party of government symbolized by an elephant?

It has been traced back to the political cartoons that were used over 100 years ago. I don't remember which cartoonist used the symbols or why he picked the ones which he did, but those symbols have been used ever since.

Donkey= Humble
Elephant= Hateful

Because Donkeys "kick up a fuss" when they see an Injustice; and Elephants "never forget" when something BAD is done to them. ... So Which are YOU??? :)

I don't know, but I'm kinda hating both of them a lot right now (with the exception of Ron Paul).
