I have a new flat and I want to buy a fireproof letterbox, to protect against an arson attack (petrol through the letterbox). The area I live in isn't too bad but it is pretty rough (Kilmarnock in Scotland).

What do you think?

think of it this way, you dont need it. whats the chances of someone just hating you so bad as for them to light your house or mailbox on fire.

Well everyone is a little paranoid about something. A letterbox may not be just a paranoid thought. It's actually kinda logical. You never know what could happen, maybe you'll be the one to accidentally start a fire in your flat.

Growing up, I grew up in a rough town. I moved away for college. And everytime I go back to visit my parents, I'm scared I'll be attacked or something. Granted I'm pretty sure nothing will happen to me, I did live there most of my life and nothing ever happened to me.

Yup. It's much MORE likely- that someone will throw a Molotov Cocktail through one of your windows, & burn your entire Flat up- leaving the Letter-box unscathed!!! :) Aw- c'mon! -Don't you have something alittle more "Probable" to worry about- like HOW you're going to pay for the Fire Insurance on that Place??! :)

is it common in that area for people to set fire to a mailbox?
has someone done this to you, or a friend or family member, or anyone you know?

if the answer to both of those is NO, well, you are being more than over-cautious.
