The Army's own numbers (from about a year ago) put the estimate at around 10 percent AT MOST.

Military experts and a National Intelligence Estimate say between 8 to 15% of the attacks are from AQI, Al Qaeda in Iraq. It is not the same Al Qaeda as the one which attacked the US on 9-11, it's a brand name that Iraqi insurgents have adopted. Here's an interesting article on this topic:

Most of them are coming from either Sunni extremist groups shooting at Shiites, or Shiite extremist groups shooting at Sunnis. Then Al Qaeda in Iraq (which is a group with no visible ties to the Al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11) is stirring up trouble in the middle. Former Saddam Loyals are all in the Iraqi government now.

No I don't. It's mostly Sunni and Shi'ite extremist factions targeting our troops. However, Al Qaeda in Iraq is made up of 90% Iraqi. There are also so many different Sunni and Shi'ite factions in Iraq, I doubt the U.S military even knows who is who. Seriously, there is even inner fighting amongst Shi'ite tribes who have devided and are now fighting eachother. But one thing is for sure, they are all targeting U.S troops besides riviling tribal factions.

There are undoubtedly many factions within Iraq who are resisting the occupation of their country, of which al Qaeda is likely prominent. It is worth noting that al Qaeda did not have a strong presence in Iraq prior to the invasion. It would be foolish and even dangerous to believe, that, the only Iraqis who are resisting the current occupation are "crazed fanatical terrorists". This is however, what we are supposed to believe.
Even those who ally themselves with al Qaeda are not all "crazed religious fanatics" motivated solely by faith in "radical Islam" and a "hatred for freedom and democracy"(lol) . Hatred for American foreign poilcy since the end of WWII is the leading motivation of those who wish to see Americans come to harm. Not to mention those who simply want to see the foreign occupation, now in it's fourth year and has claimed over one million civilian casualties, come to an end.
We were meant to believe that the US lead coalition invaded Iraq to eliminate their alleged supplies of WMDs . It turned out their were none, it was a lie. So now we are supposed to believe that the troops are over there to "promote democracy". Funny, I don't buy it. The US has absolutely no interest in promoting democracy or freedom. The Bush (senior) and Regan administrations had no problem supporting Saddam Husein during the 80s, selling him the WMDs he used against Iran during their war and then turned against his own people when they rebelled with no protest forth coming from Washington, until 2003 of course when it became convenient for the current Bush administration to use the incident as one of the many justifications for their illegal invasion.
America supports harsh and repressive regimes all around the world, their only interest is in compliant governments who meekly follow the orders issued from Washington.
Now the US threatens, blackmails and attacks anyone who they perceive as jeopardizing their hegemony. It is not just those in the middle east that Americans will have to worry about in the years to come. All over the world people are witnessing the crimes perpetrated by the American Empire. America has lost what little standing they had left in the world. Now, anywhere they seek to meddle in the affairs of other nations they will be met with strong resistance and rightly so.
People around the world understand that American aggression is the greatest single threat to world peace. America is fueling a new arms race and increasing the very real threat of a nuclear war. Let's pray that something will be done about this very soon, starting with the impeachment and imprisonment of the criminals Bush && Cheney. it's worth remembering that War Criminals were sentenced to death, for much less then what these two are guilty of, at the Nuremberg trials.

No. I think they come from disgruntled Iraqi people who are tired of the US occupying their country. Unless it's an already established person high up in the al Qaeda organization, I doubt we know who is behind most attacks.

Look at it from the Iraqi civilians point of view
The US kicked the sh1t out them.
The US were the invading force
The US were not wanted
The US installed what they see as a 'US puppet government'
OK, someone comes to your country, bombs the shite out of it, kills a family member or your friend, would you lie back and take it or join the resistance?
Bush is the worlds terrorist. America is the latest empire-builder. No wonder he has the backing of the brits.
