So that the American people don't really realize that he's just covering for the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei? I mean, it is up to the Supreme Leader to declare war. He's the one with the power over the military, not Ahmadinejad. Do you think the American public is lulled into thinking the idiot Ahmadinejad is just a lunatic whackjob because we don't understand Iranian political structure?

Of course -- in Iran, the "President" is not the highest executive authority -- he's just in charge of much of the domestic agenda -- he's not the Commander of the armed forces, and not even as powerful as a Prime Minister in most parliamentary countries.

Ahmadinejad goes out of his way to say things that are inflamatory and that annoy the US and US allies -- because that scores him political points at home -- he's the court jester as much as anything else -- and the fact that all of the war-hawks are focusing on him just leaves the rest of the actual leadership free to pursue their real agendas.

No, the Iranian mullahs are probably pretty proud that Ahmadinejad has negotiated a defense pact with Russia against an American attack.

Iran is not doing the posing of Ahmadinejad; US Republicans are. All their rhetoric has been pointed at Ahmadinejad because it's easy to demonize this fiery and confrontational populist who is a short, poorly dressed, and ugly looking.

The right answer to your question is that (1) nations have different understandings of events, one from another, and (2) sometimes nation's get caught up in dogma. This happens to the US as well as to Iran.

The nation of Iran is not posing its president as a fool!

Eh... no... Thinking that he is a fool is a *BIG* mistake... he doesn't act independently of the Ayatollahs... What he states is what they actually believe and mean. Pay attention to what they say, Iran is a dangerous adversary... not only to us, but to the whole world...... They want to install a new Caliphate and rule the world under Sharia Law... Basically they want you Muslim or dead. What Mahmoud says is what they believe and will try to implement what ever the cost.
