I like it because of the satire and slapstick humor. Also, being an 80's child, I like the 80's cultural references.
As for it being racist, I've never seen/heard anything in the show that suggests any racism on the part of the writers. They make fun of a lot of stereotypes, but that's about it.
I've always thought of it as a cross between The Simpsons and South Park.

Racism is everywhere and it isn't always as bad as south park though it can be pretty bad. Not everything is racist though and making fun of people it just happens it is a comedy what else can you really make fun of since you're going to end up making fun of someone. I watch it every time it comes on with someone that's close to me just so we can have a laugh it does have some unfunny and kind of bad points but oh well.

I love 'Family Guy' and other adult cartoons (such as 'Southpark', for example). Funny, funny, funny! It's just comedy- the same as what stand-up comedians deliver when they jump on stage and talk about all the white rednecks who chew tobacceeee and spit out of their pick-up trucks while driving to the nearest bar to poke some Budweiser-drinking hooker- the same as when they poke fun of the black folk who trip over their five-sizes-too-big jeans and go rolling down the hill yelling for their baby mommas to call 911. It isn't a big deal. It's just a matter of having a laugh at the expense of the people who are ignorant enough to believe BS stereotypes. Toons like 'Family Guy' are actually helping to fight nonsense generalizations by telling the world how ridiculous they are (which is why they "overdo it" to insanely laughable extremes).
To illustrate my point: Have you ever heard a black comedian making fun of white people by "talking white"? The comedian might say, for example, "Like the staplerrr like wernt workin cuuuz like it werz broke and like that staplerrr made me like lose mah job cuuuz like mah boss just like hadta have that thur reeporut in by like noonish. But like I coodnt get thur reeporut in on time cuuuz that dern staplerrr woodnt like do right by me." Do you think very many people (if ANYONE at all) really think that white people as a whole actually talk like that? Of course not. To think as such is silly. Right? Definitely. And it's silly to believe ANY stereotype to whatever degree. That's the point that I think a lot of comedians and shows like 'Family Guy' are trying to make (that stereotypes are just down right stupid and should be laughed away into oblivion).
I hope everyone understands what I'm saying.
I think that, often times, comedy goes a long way in the effort to stomp out the bigotry that plagues this world. Comedy laughs at prejudice and tells us all just how pointless and worthless it is.
Thank you for your question.

South park is farrrr worse than family guy. I thought family guy was horrible until I saw one pretty decent episode. The thing is that some eps are okay and some are really bad. It's hard to know! Lots of cartoons in the adult cartoon genre have racist jokes. I do not watch any of them because of the content. It's too much for me sometimes.

First and fore most, I love the way they use sarcasm in humour and make fun of things in such an absurb way.
But, like a lot of humour, it still has an underlining point you should think about and take to heart. But, still allows you to keep your spirits up about things and lets you know its ok to laugh at things.
...and not take life so seriously, because most the things you think matter, really dont.

Simply because it talks about real issues and jokingly shows how stupid and petty some views are. That and because its the best late night toon.
