If you graduate from a top-ranked school like Harvard, Yale, or Stanford, you are basically guaranteed a job that pays over $60,000+ or placement into graduate school, even if you don't have that strong of a GPA (2.25-3.25). What if you majored in something common like psychology or neuroscience.

Neuroscience? Common? Heh!

There are no guarantees. Graduates of elite schools do have more opportunities and often get good jobs. Several of my undergraduate students at Penn's Wharton school got six figure salaries out of school.

On the other hand -- those students did not have a 2.25 GPA. Students who don't do as well at these schools don't have the same opportunities as the students who do well.

No. It is still going to depend what field you go into. As for applying to grad schools, I know especially for psychology, it is hard to get in, and if you have a low GPA, it's going to hurt you even if you go to an Ivy League. They'll consider the whole package, not just the GPA.
