if you could give a step by step breakdown on how in the world you solve for "x" i would be more then grateful.

F = akx/b + kx
= kx(a/b + 1)
x = F/(k(a/b +1))

And the above answer may be simplified to:
(b*f)/((a+b)*k)
(Multiply numerator and denominator by 'b')
