I am contemplating a move to St. Thomas pretty soon, is there a reasonable way to bring my new TV with me? It weighs about 100lbs and I have the original box/packaging. Thanks!

The best way to move a large item like your TV is to use the services of a freight forwarder like Tropical or Crowley is your best bet. UPS, FED-EX and even USPS will be prohibitively expensive. When you contact either of the above ask them about sharing a container with goods already scheduled to be shipped. In this way, you may be able to reduce the cost of shipping your TV to a very reasonable price. While it may take a bit longer the money you will save will be significant. If these two companies are not able to help you directly, I’m sure they can put you in touch with a reputable company with whom they regularly do business. Good luck!

I would not risk shipping a TV to St Thomas. To expensive unless the company you buy it from will box and ship it. Sell the TV and buy a new one in St Thomas.
Call the airline you plan to fly and see if they will have space in their cargo hold and how much they will charge.

One other suggestion. People move to the USVI all the time and ship things. Try posting your question on this relocation site. They have some very good suggestions.

I've lived on St Thomas 30 years and sent A LOT of stuff back and forth, so:

It's too big and too heavy for the Post Office which is usually the best way to get things here......

You'll faint when you get a price form UPS or Fed Ex, for the VI is considered an international destination

while you can ship it via a freight forwarder, by the time you pack it.......and I'd put it in a wooden crate as well as the cardboard it came in, and waited the two-three weeks or more for it to get here, and risk the damage.........

nothing travels easier than money. Sell it there buy a new one here.

Take it to Mail Boxes Are Us or a similar packaging store that can professionally pack it and guarantee their work. They can check the shipping rates thru the Post Office, Fed-Ex, UPS, DHl...different carriers...and tell you which is best. Won't be cheap!
