Thank you robinandmarty. I meant, how reliable considering a woman would only be 6 weeks PP. I didnt know whether you might get a false positive. Sorry, i should have made myself more clear. :)

In our office, we see it happen all the time! Usually, the nurse will ask the patient at her 6 week pp visit, if she has already been sexually active. IF she has, we routinely do a urine pregnancy test.
To answer your question, it is only reliable if it has been at least 2 weeks since you had intercourse. IF has been less than that, we normally will do blood work. We wait for the results to come back before starting them on birth control.

Not exactly my six week check up but pretty close. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I have an eleven month old boy who is going to turn 1 Nov 1 and I don't think that I'm gonna make it to his birthday. OMG that should have been a shock. I had an episiotomy, so my ob/gyn forbid all sex for the whole 6 weeks pp until she could checked I healed fine. In the same appointment I got a Mirena IUD. I'm not sure if I want anymore kids so I took precautions.

I made it to my 8 week appointment. LOL
A urine test was positive. I was pregnant with a girl, my 2nd.
She and my son are 13 months apart and just like peas and carrots!

I was and let me tell you that it was a shock! I just took a regular pregnancy test. It came up positive so went to the Dr. Good Luck Hun. Oh yea by the way i took a ept test.
